Finding Friends in the Afterlife, Three Stories

Image
Rev. Don Piper's Resurrection Don Piper was a Baptist minister who attended a convention in the Houston area in January, 1989. He went there hoping to learn more about starting a new church. On the way home, while crossing a bridge with a protective railing, a prison truck driven by an inmate crossed over to his lane and landed on top of his car, crushing both car and driver. Don Piper died instantly, with gruesome damage to head, thorax, and limbs. Another minister from the same convention was part of the resulting traffic jam, so he and his wife walked forward to see what happened. He didn't particularly know Rev. Piper, but he felt that he could aid with prayer and comfort. What he found was a very mangled Don, still in the car, and covered with a tarp to hide the gruesome body. No one was attending to him because he was dead. beyond all question. He couldn't be moved until the coroner officially declared him dead. Rev. Gentiles crawled into the car through the back, lif...

The Battle for MUFON: Part 5/5: Everyone Moves On

Image
First, let me reiterate that the Battle for MUFON is over. The chips have fallen where they will, and hopefully things are as they should be. I am still a member, and those who asked me 2010 if they should quit, I encouraged to stay in. There is no substitute for MUFON, at least here in the US. It has been over a year since I last blogged. I've been teaching Old Testament classes in my church and I've written a second book, which will hopefully come out this year. When the dust of the 2010 MUFON mutiny settled and Jan Harzan became the new president, I wrote him and asked for his assurance that a new day had dawned in MUFON and the break with BAASS was firm. He assured me that it was indeed a new day. The problem with the former relationship was that some MUFON board members had security clearances and close relationships with Bigelow, BAASS colleagues, and perhaps even with members of the military-industrial complex...you know...the one that has been covering up UFO disclo...

A Farmer's Legacy

Image
Pastor Mark Welch of The Pointe Church in Antelope, CA once shared a story about an aged pastor in Michigan who was being honored as the original founder of a church there. At a community meal, that old pastor wound up seated across from young Mark. The man asked Mark general questions as to where he was from and who he was. Mark told him about his father and grandfather who were pastors. Finally the old man began to tell a story. When he was a young man, he felt the call to be an evangelist. In those days, what you did was rent a huge circus tent and set it up wherever you could. People just showed up and the event ran as long as it needed. One time the evangelist came to a farm to ask permission to use the land. The farmer agreed, but warned, "Don't expect me to show up." The evangelist said that was fine. One night the farmer did show up with several friends. They were rowdy and drunk and rude. They heckled the minister as he preached. Suddenly, God spoke to the eva...

Is It Safe to Die, Part IV, Gilgamesh and Robert Monroe

The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Book of Job and several Psalms in the Hebrew Bible echo the dark and dreary Mesopotamian/Canaanite view of death. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh’s beloved friend Enkidu receives a premonition of his death in a dream. He describes his immanent fate to Gilgamesh. This passage can be found in Ancient Near Eastern Texts Relating to the Old Testament (ANET), 1950, p. 87, but a more lay-friendly version is found in The Epic of Gilgamesh by N. K. Sandars, Penguin, 1983. “As Enkidu slept alone in his sickness, in bitterness of spirit he poured out his heart to his friend. ‘It was I who cut down the cedar, who leveled the forest, I who slew Humbaba and now see what has become of me. Listen, my friend, this is the dream I dreamed last night. The heavens roared, and earth rumbled back an answer; between them stood I before an awful being, the somber-faced man-bird; he had directed on me his purpose. His was a vampire face, his foot was a lion’s foot, his hand ...

The Gulf Breeze Sightings, Part 3, The Illusion of Absolute Reality

Image
Source: Ed and Frances Walters, The Gulf Breeze Sightings: The Most Astounding Multiple Sightings of UFOs in U.S. History , William Morrow and Co, 1990. As the controversy rages on about whether abducting aliens are “space brothers” here to raise our consciousness or whether they are exploitative predators, one aspect of abduction that recurs in many hypnotic regression sessions is the ability of aliens to create hallucinations that are so realistic that the savviest of abductees cannot tell what is real and what is illusion. Today, we can do the same thing with artificial intelligence, but aliens, whatever they are, can do it telepathically.  In the first book by Ed and Frances Walters ( The Gulf Breeze Sightings ), Ed mentioned that twice the aliens, in their initial contacts, sent him a series of visions in his head. The first was of all kinds of dogs. Later it was naked women, all ages, races, and shapes. During the regression years with hypnotist Dr. Dan Overlade, (as d...

Why I, a Protestant, Now Believe in Purgatory

It may not be fire, but it has been graphically described by several authors who have stumbled onto different versions of it. Dr. Frank Ritchie and Angie Fenimore began as nonbelievers but ended as devout Christians because of what they saw in Otherworld. Robert A. Monroe and Rosalind McKnight practiced decades of out of body experiments with no particular religious orientation. They did not encounter God or Jesus Christ, but they did describe many a miserable, lost, and benighted spirit. Monroe was occasionally accosted by spooky, sexual entities who tried to seduce him into an erotic encounter. Monroe describes the fate of two of his close intellectual friends and that of his father, none of whom were in a peaceful heavenly situation. One of them came up to greet him through a hole in the floor of some Otherworld room. He appeared as a gaseous cloud. As he began to address Monroe, guiding hands interrupted the interview and led Monroe away. Monroe's description of angry, desperat...
