Who Wrote the Book of Genesis?

Image
And where was the Garden of Eden? Was there a UFO connection? Ocean scene with golden sunset. Image by Jonny Belvedere on Pixabay   Scriptures are pasted from biblegateway.com, NKJV. WHEN Genesis was written? For decades of my Christian existence, I thought it was a given that Moses wrote the five books of the Torah, Genesis through Deuteronomy. In the Christian Bible, the Torah is usually called the five books of Moses. My Lutheran Bible tells me that Martin Luther never doubted that Moses wrote Genesis, and the modern study notes state clearly that Moses wrote the book. That surprises me because Genesis itself makes no pretense that he wrote it, but rather tells us that it was written well after Israel replaced the Canaanites in the land. Moses never made it to Canaan, so he couldn’t have testified to the Conquest. It’s almost as if I had to throw off my own literalist approach to Genesis before my brain gave my eyeballs permission to see the following passages: G...

Gentile Levites and Talking Snakes

Image
A dive into Hebrew Bible metaphors that we can apply today I am often inspired in my writings by things I heard in adult Sunday School class or in a sermon. Last Sunday the topic in Sunday School was George Friderick Handel’s Messiah. We heard the soloist sing the passage in Malachi 3:2, 3: “But who may abide the day of His coming, and who shall stand when He appeareth? For He is like a refiner’s fire. And He shall purify the sons of Levi, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” (All passages are NKJV, biblegateway.com) I love to study biblical metaphors. Refiner’s fire…a process in which the impurities of an ore are burned away, changing the nature of the ore, leaving the pure substance like gold or silver. We discussed how fire is good…it cooks our food, gives us light, and keeps us warm. It has the capacity to drastically change the substance of what it burns. It can purify metal, sterilize or cauterize a wound, or turn a house into ash. Fire has to be...

Was Yahweh a Reptilian Alien? (Short answer, NO)

Image
It embarrasses me to even deal with this ridiculous topic, but if one googles that question, all sorts of websites appear dealing with the subject, many of which declare that Yaweh is an alien. Such horsefeathers! And these very pseudo-scholars would denigrate the fundamentalist Christians and Jews for taking the Bible stories too literally. At least the conservative Christians and Jews are taking this magnificent piece of ancient literature  as it has been written . The UFO community is grabbing the flotsam and jetsam of many ancient legends, cherry picking what seems interesting, and sewing it all together into a frankensteinish patchwork that makes for great midnight blog reading. I will agree with them on one point. The ancient world worshiped the serpent as a deity. There are pre-Sumer replicas of strange, human-like bodies with reptilian heads. One female is holding a baby that could well represent the tales of hybrids today. Furthermore Genesis 6 does talk about the...

Did Yahweh Impede the Progress of Mankind?

Image
I recently received a negative comment on my posts about resisting alien abductions. One strong recommendation that I make when aliens attack is prayer, but it needs to be prayer to the correct Higher Power. The name of Jesus has probably been the most effective means of banishing aliens. However, not all agree. Here is the comment that came through. While I mean no disrespect to the responder, I think it would be worthwhile to unpack the response line by line and take a close look at it. I’ve read these arguments before and understand perfectly where they are coming from. “Do you realize that most of your religious beliefs were based on worshipping beings...FLESH and blood beings from other worlds?” So this responder thinks that Yahweh and Jesus are just para-humans from another planet. A goodly number of serious UFO researchers today, including Whitley Strieber and Jacques Vallee, question whether the “aliens” are actually from other worlds or planets. After His resurre...

The Serpent vs. the Dove

Image
A dove, not a snake, fell on Jesus when He was baptized I have recently begun reading a book called “Return of the Serpents of Wisdom,” [Adventures Unlimited, 1997, by Mark Amaru (it means snake) Pinkham]. According to this strange book, the biblical story of the serpent in the Garden of Eden turned reality upside down because the Hebrew Bible is wrong when it depicts Yahweh as the fount of Life and Wisdom, whereas it is really the Serpent who offers those gifts. The book is slithering with mystical serpents all across the pages, the ages, and the globe. These reptilians came from the Sirius and Pleiades star systems to Atlantis until it sank. They taught humans their magical and psychic arts, causing adepts and priests to become enlightened. They taught us healing, sorcery, alchemy, and soul travel. The Kundalini fire serpent is ubiquitous in anthropological literature. In Pinkham's world it was really the Christian Church that formulated the Serpents of Wisdom as the foe of mank...
